Lost my bag in transit void 3 weeks ago and lost+found says it "hasn't arrived yet"??
Dropped my duffel in the Fenwick corridor three weeks ago when the route shifted during a maintenance window. Filed a claim with void transit lost+found and they told me, verbatim, "the item has been located but hasn't arrived yet." When I asked when it would arrive they said "we don't speculate on arrival times for items in active transit." It's a bag. On a floor. In a corridor I was physically standing in. How has it not arrived.
The corridor you were standing in and the corridor your bag fell into may not have been the same corridor at the moment of the drop. During maintenance windows the layers can offset slightly. Your bag is probably in an adjacent slice of the route, which means it's physically there but temporally somewhere else. The lost+found retrieval team has to wait for the layers to realign to pull it out. I know how that sounds. It's how it works. Average retrieval time for offset items is 6-10 weeks. I got a scarf back after 11 months. It was fine. Slightly cold.
Got my backpack back after about two months. Everything inside was exactly as I left it except all the text in my notebook had shifted one line down. Every page. Never got an explanation for that.
Week 5 update. The lost+found sent me a form letter that says my item is "progressing through retrieval stages." There are apparently seven stages. My bag is on stage three, which is described as "positionally confirmed, temporally pending." I asked what stages four through seven are and the agent said that information is available at the lost+found office during business hours. The office is inside the void transit terminal. Which I need my transit pass to access. Which was in the bag.
You can get a temporary transit pass at the kiosk outside the terminal. 5 credits, valid for 48 hours. Don't tell them it's for lost+found access, they'll route you to a different kiosk that's around the corner and has shorter hours. Just say you're commuting. Also, stage three is good. Stage three means they know exactly where it is and are just waiting for the window. Stages five through seven are the ones where they start using phrases like "retrieval may require non-standard methods" and "the item's current location is technically disputed."
